Heathers: High School Edition follows the story of Veronica Sawyer as she navigates High School and clashes with the power trio of the students at the top of the social hierarchy: The Heathers.

Heathers is a dark comedy, originally made famous by the 1988 movie of the same title, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The original stage production made its debut Off-Broadway and has since found great success in London on the West End. The original version is rated R, which begs the question of why it would be a popular choice for High School productions.

After receiving many requests from schools for licensing rights for Heathers, the licensing company, in conjunction with the playwrights, decided to re-write parts of the show to create a “High School Edition.”

A new version of the production was created: “After seeing the Off-Broadway production several times, we knew that Heathers would have a cult following among teen audiences and fans of the motion picture, due to its focus on the important issues of bullying and teenage depression,” says executive director Bruce Lazarus. “We believe that Heathers: High School Edition deals with these themes in a meaningful way, which will resonate with our high school audiences.”

The show still deals with difficult subject matter, such as bullying, depression, suicide, and violence. Being involved in Heathers: High School Edition has provided the cast with the opportunity to have meaningful discussions around serious issues that resonate with them. This new version is rated PG: 13.

As per public heath guidelines, proof of vaccination status will be needed to attend.
