This benefit dance is being held for a family in our area to raise funds for medical and transportation costs. We will have a DJ, Cash Bar, Amazing Door Prizes and Prize Packages you can buy tickets for. Start Time is 730pm and will go until we can't dance anymore!

Sophie Jones was born with a rare chromosome micro deletion which goes by the name of Malan Syndrome, she is the only one in Nova Scotia and there are 4 in Canada. This causes her to have epilepsy, low muscle tone, global development delay, ataxia, anxiety and migraines. Sophie is the happiest 5 year old girl you will ever meet. She is energetic and constantly pushes herself despite her many obstacles. You wouldn't know by her giant smile, but Sophie has gone through so much for such a young girl.

Sophie uses a wheelchair or crawls to get around the house. With assistance, she is able to use a walker to move about for short periods of time. She is a happy go lucky girl, who doesn't stop trying despite her challenges. She is always smiling and laughing.

Initially, Sophie's seizures had her going to the hospital by ambulance numerous times. Her recovery period from the seizures and migraines could last days. Sophie was prescribed multiple medications over the past 3 years in order to control these seizures, all which gave her terrible side effects. Sophie's seizures are well controlled now and she hasn’t required an ambulance in two years. Her seizures have drastically reduced not only in frequency but in duration. Her recovery time is hours instead of days. Her current medication regimen includes only CBD oil, which unfortunately is not covered by health insurance. This requires Sophie's parents to pay $567.40 a month, for Sophie to have the quality of life she deserves, where she can be that happy go lucky girl.

Although she is a very normal weight for her age, she is getting too heavy to lift in and out of a car without her dad, and on her bad days she will go completely limp, making it that much harder to get her in and out of her car seat in the family’s small car. The family hasn’t been able to travel together in years. Part of the money raised will be going towards an accessibility van for the family which would provide them easy transportation needs not only for Sophie, but for the entire family.

I have known Nick and Kaylee Jones, parents of Sophie, for years now. They are determined, caring and wonderful parents who work constantly to better themselves in order to provide the best possible care for not only Sophie, but for her two younger sisters as well. This fundraiser is just a chance for me to help out a family who wouldn’t ask for anything on their own.
