Come learn about wildflowers of Nova Scotia with Alain Belliveau in this full-day course!
Every wondered about all the beautiful flowers you have encountered while wandering the woods, fields and roadsides throughout Kings Co or Nova Scotia in general? Come learn about them and how to identify different plant families and wildflower species.
This is an all-day field course on how to identify wildflowers conducted by Alain Belliveau, the Biodiversity Collections Manager at the E C Smith Herbarium at Acadia University.
Lunch will be provided by Ross Creek Centre for the Arts! Yum - dietary requests can be accommodated with enough notice (food form available upon registration).
Course Outline (may be subject to slight change):
10:00am - 10:30am: Introductions, ice breaking
10:30am - 11:00am: Introduction to the Acadian Forest Region, to major plant groups and families, and to most common wildflower species
11:00am - 12:00pm: Identification of species from most major plant groups and families by the instructor
12:00pm - 12:45pm: Lunch
12:45pm - 4:00pm: Perusing different habitat types on the property and identifying as many wildflower species as possible, optional mini-workshop with iNaturalist app which is where wildflower species list will be produced and published
4:00pm: Wrap-up and Thank You!

- Plant terminology cheat sheet
- Common plant families of this region
- Key to common fern species
- A few plant presses, loaned for the day
- Plant guidebooks / manuals, loaned for the day
