STREET BEAT SUITE
40 years into a brilliant international career, "La Grande Dame" of Canadian jazz, pianist/composer Lorraine Desmarais celebrates with the release of Street Beat Suite, a work for jazz trio in eight movements.
It is an invitation to a unique moment where a virtuoso trio recreates a fiery portrait of styles ranging from swing to Afro-Cuban music, including bebop, funk-hip-hop, free jazz and romantic ballad.
The Suite: ORANGE BRÛLÉ is the superb sunset seen from the top of the hill at the entrance to the city of Rimouski.
VALSE SAINT-GERMAIN is reminiscent of a friendly café on rue Saint-Germain. THE PRESIDENT LIKES CHICK is a naughty nod to the legendary Chick Corea. PROMENADE DE LA MER is the joy of a hike along the river to the song of the seagulls, while JAM SESSION is the atmosphere of late evenings tinged with unexpected musical encounters. STREET BEAT , a must-have "funky" and euphoric street jazz. PAQUITO, beautiful memory of a concert alongside the Cuban saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera! And finally, when all this jazz ends, it is the return to calm and serenity… AT DAWN… TOWARDS THE RIVER…
A Member of the Order of Canada. Lorraine Desmarais has performed in concert with internationally renowned jazz artists including Chick Corea, Oliver Jones, Jacky Terrasson, Joe Lovano, the Big Band Diva of New York, the Brubeck Brothers and Paquito D'Rivera.
She has twelve albums of original compositions to her credit.
