Oktoberfest at The Malt House has always been one of our favorite events, a great way to get ready for the colder months. We are very thankful that we chose September 30-October 2nd to hold it, if it was during Fiona we would be out of luck!
This year we have two Oom-pah Bands playing Saturday, Eine Kleine at 2:30, and a Touch of Brass at 5. We are very excited about this, who would of thought there were two great Ooompah bands in our back yard?
Another big part of Oktoberfest, obviously, is the beer. Horton Ridge will be releasing 'Labor of Love', a German Schwarzbier, for the second time. A dark lager, brewed with our Munich and dark chocolate malt to provide an exceptionally smooth, crisp beer with malty notes and finishes with chocolate with a hint of coffee.
'Bucked Up' Kolsch will also be reintroduced into the line up. A crowd favorite, do it's great flavour, while remaining light and easy drinking. It got its name due to the fact that we put buckwheat in the grain bill. This is something that the Germans would never do as they keep this beer pure. So it is in fact a Kolsch, just a little... Bucked up.
Mega munchies will be serving up Sausages on a bun with Sauerkraut. It wouldn't be a true Oktoberfest without sausages!
