Small Things by Nova Scotia Playwright Daniel MacIvor is a poignant dramatic comedy. Directed by Spencer Laing, the story revolves around three strong female characters trying to find connection, common ground and yes, even love, in the modern world. The short three-hander (it runs just 90 minutes with no intermission) centres around Patricia, a retired teacher who hires motor-mouthed Birdy as a housekeeper. Their relationship is mediated by Birdy’s daughter, Dell, who’s trying to figure out what to do with her own life. At the same time, she’s navigating raising two pre-teen boys, one of whom is transgendered. Small Things blends humor, heart and life lessons.
