The Bridgewater Fire Department Band is back for a performance of this year’s spring program, with music featuring classical arrangements and military marches.

With the summer parade season on the horizon, the band gives a preview of things to come with Canada on the March and the British composition, Eagle Squadron. For the more classically inclined the program offers arrangements from Bach, including the thunderous Toccata in D Minor. Joining the Band for the Kentville performance will be special guest Robert McCarthy.

Canada’s oldest Fire Department band, the BFDB is composed of community members from all walks of life, each contributing hundreds of hours each year to prepare for the performances and parades for which the band is known. This year they will be taking their talents abroad as they travel to the UK to complete the second half of their international exchange with the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Band.

Robert M. McCarthy is a former member of the School of Music of Acadia University (1972- 2004) and past teacher of both the BFDB’s Director and Bandmaster. Educated at both the John Hopkins University and the Peabody Institute of Music. Fr. McCarthy in turn taught musical theory, history, film, and world music, in addition to teaching woodwinds instruments.

Tickets for the Kentville show will be available at the Kentville fire hall. Tickets are available online at www.bfdband.com.
