The Conundrum Trio is an offshoot of the Conundrum String quartet, formed in the winter of 2020 by four members of the Acadia University String Orchestra. Because of the pandemic, performance opportunities were limited but in 2021-22 the quartet was able to perform several times, including at the Acadia University School of Music and at the West Brooklyn Speakeasy. Our violist moved away from Nova Scotia in 2022 and the quartet became a trio. Violinists Keigan Richard and Margaret Whitehouse are recent graduates of the Acadia University School of Music. They were both also instructors this year with the Acadia Regional Youth Orchestra, for which Elizabeth Sircom, cello, is the Program Director. The name Conundrum is a tribute to Conundrum Press, who lent us a rehearsal space during the pandemic.
Established in 2018, The Acadia Regional Youth Orchestra is a string program for young people aged 10-24 as well as a Fiddle Group for all ages. We offer weekly string clinics in violin, viola and cello to those who would like to learn a string instrument for the first time, and two orchestral ensembles, for players from beginner to advanced intermediate level. Our Fiddle Group plays traditional Nova Scotia fiddle tunes at an easy intermediate level.
