October 3-26
While isolating over the last two years because of the Pandemic, I found myself driving around our local countryside on the Eastern Shore quite a bit. It was one way to at least go somewhere and be safe! As well, it was spring and the ground was beginning to wake up and the promise of growth was beginning. I found this all very moving in such a dark time and I began photographing ditches, and the verges of fields, roads and ponds.
As an artist my practice has always been involved in the land and the body and those inter-relationships. The fragility and yet strength yet somehow the intent for growth and regeneration in times of stress has been an ongoing theme in my work.
On the Verge can refer to two things; that the edges or verges can indicate to us the potential for hope that things can flourish and continue despite the state our world is in, and it can also refer to ‘on the verge of madness’ which is perhaps how a lot of us have felt over the last few years.
