Launched in 2014, National Canadian Film Day (CanFilmDay) is a massive, coast-to-coast-to-coast salute to Canadian cinema and the incredible achievements of our filmmakers.
In honour of CanFilmDay, the library will host a free screening of All My Puny Sorrows.
Based on the 2014 best-selling novel by Miriam Toews, All My Puny Sorrows is the moving and poignant story of two sisters estranged from their Mennonite community who return home following the suicide of their father. Elfrieda (Gadon) is a successful concert pianist who suffers from severe depression and wants to end her life. Yolandi (Pill) is a writer who struggles to come to terms with her sister’s wishes, and makes profound discoveries about herself in the process.
Featuring outstanding performances and a strong emotional core, Michael McGowan’s incredible adaptation explores the depths – and limits – of familial love in sealing the cracks of tragedy and trauma.
