Originally planned with Fredericton rockers Motherhood, they are unavailable so we're featuring three acts who really shone at last spring's Youth Battle of the Bands: Summerhouse, Alaina Manalo, and Sh!tgoblins
What the bands have to say for themselves:
We’re Summerhouse, a trio of high school students from Nova Scotia who want to bring a nostalgic blend of indie rock, alternative, and experimental/psychedelic sounds. With Finn Paster on drums, Noah Rafuse on guitar, and Lennon Lang on keyboard, we bring a captivating energy to the indie scene. We were brought together by our passion for the arts. We write our own songs, perform unique covers of indie artists and even collaborate in film making. We’re here to make music that creates a unique atmosphere, moves our audiences, and shares our curiosity and excitement.
We are The Sh!t Goblins, a three piece rock band consisting of Kieran O'Neill (Drums, Vocals, Guitar), Dillon Price (Guitar, Vocals), and Marshall Daniels (Bass Guitar). We play mostly covers, but as of recently we have started writing our own songs. Our style is a mix of all rock genres, mainly focusing on grunge.
Fifteen year old singer-songwriter, Alaina Therese Rosales Manalo, was born in the Philippines and grew up in New Minas, NS. Her passion in music and the arts began at the age of three when she started singing, and she has since continued to explore various instruments such as the guitar, piano and ukulele. Growing up in a music orientated family and setting helped her develop an interest of writing her own music at the age of 10, along with performing in musicals, and expressing herself through poetry.
Earlier this spring, Alaina won first place in the Battle of the Bands showcasing her original song, "Growing Pains." Ever since, she has been giving more local performances. Currently, she is now working on her debut single, "Wanna Be," in her home studio which will be released towards the end of this year.
