Ian Janes’ solo acoustic shows are about much more than just the delivery of his songs; he makes the audience feel connected to the music by sharing stories of its inspiration and creation. Songs mean more to people when they know more about their ‘how’ and ‘why’.
Ian’s dynamic guitar playing, compelling voice and charismatic presence capture and hold the audience's attention from the first note to the last.
With 7 albums of his own, plus successful songs from co-writing in various genres, there’s lots to pick from to fit the mood of the moment.
“...Ian Janes knows how to write songs that sound like classics, and he keeps getting better.”
-Rolling Stone France
“One of the best songwriters from the east coast, like, ever.”
-Bob Mersereau’s Top 100 Canadian Singles
Ian Janes makes pop songs that are deeply influenced by soul, R&B, and jazz…yet his music transcends genre and era. Across 6 albums and a lifetime of making music, he truly has his own distinct voice as a singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer.
Since he began making records in 1998, Ian has always had his own clear voice as an artist. With 6 East Coast Music Award nominations, 5 Music Nova Scotia Award nominations, plus an ‘album of the year’ win, and being named ‘1 of 100 Canadians To Watch’ by MacLeans magazine. and everything that he makes is crafted with painstaking attention to the small details that discern good from great.
The success of Ian’s work co-writing with a variety of other artists is a testament to his deep, genreless understanding of songcraft; with multiple songs having racked up well over a million streams on Spotify alone. In 2017 Ian’s song Can't Remember Never Loving You (Hill/Janes) was prominently featured in the CMT/Nickelodeon show “Nashville” and in 2019 he co-wrote and recorded music for the acclaimed HBO documentary series “The Case Against Adnan Syed”. Ian has had multiple cuts with beloved Canadian roots/blues singer Matt Andersen including one of his most streamed songs, Something To Lose; as well as So Low, Solo, which is included on the 2023 Juno Nominated album ‘Matt Anderson and the Big Bottle of Joy’. “I Do Thing” (Aielli/Frey/Janes) was released by Nashville-based country artist Kylie Frey, and went to #1 on the Texas Regional Radio chart. In September of 2023 Frey performed the song live on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, on which she was a semi-finalist.
In October, 2023 Ian was the featured guest artist, co-writer and appeared in the video for the single ‘Wonder’ by multi-platinum selling Canadian hip hop legend Classified, which reached #3 on the CBC Top 20. A second single, Amnesia, was released in late April 2024 which samples/interpolates Ian’s 2021 song of the same name. Ian also played a prominent comedic role in the song’s basketball-themed video.
Ian’s 7th album WeakNights was released on May 3rd, 2023. It is a cross section of everything Ian is about as an artist/producer: expertly crafted songs supported by infectious grooves, airtight arrangements and flawless musicianship.
