Wholehearted | Melissa Townsend
Harvest Gallery is pleased to present Wholehearted, a new solo exhibition by acclaimed Nova Scotia artist Melissa Townsend, on view from August 9 to September 7, 2025. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 9, from 1-3 PM in the gallery's lower level. The public is warmly invited to attend, meet the artist, and enjoy light refreshment.
Wholehearted is a vibrant and emotionally resonant collection of oil paintings that reflect on joy, resilience, and the search for meaning in everyday life. Townsend's work invites viewers to slow down, feel deeply, and reconnect with what truly matters. Each piece calls us to live with courage, gratitude, and presence-even amid uncertainty.
This exhibition is more than a visual experience-it's a conversation. Visitors are invited to respond directly to the work by leaving a word, drawing, or reflection on a shared response board. These collective expressions will return to the artist's studio, becoming part of the ongoing creative process and a source of continued inspiration.
"My hope," says Townsend, "is that you're reminded your life matters-that your heart was made for something meaningful, and each day holds the opportunity to love, create, and live with authenticity."
Melissa Townsend (b. 1977, Alberta) is an intuitive oil painter known for her emotionally layered and atmospheric works. A graduate of NSCAD University (BFA, 2005), she has painted full-time since 2012. That same year, her work was acquired by the Nova Scotia Art Bank. Her paintings are now held in private collections internationally, including by celebrated actors, musicians, and authors.
Townsend lives near Peggy's Cove with her husband, son, and two lively dogs. Her work continues to explore memory, nature, and the quiet power of renewal-inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and begin again.
