Gina Burgess is a genre-bending violinist and composer from Kjipuktuk / Halifax. She is well known for her virtuosic work with the hot swing outfit Gypsophilia (NS), and the Juno nominated folk-rock band The Jerry Cans (Iqaluit).
She’ll be performing with Cynthia Pitsiulak (Contemporary Inuit throat singing), Greg Woolner (Drum kit), Jordan Stephens (Double bass), and Ross Burns (Brazilian percussion).
Gina’s 2024 debut solo release “ISNOW” was met with wide acclaim, and won an East Coast Music Award for Fusion Recording of The Year.Gina’s performances feature an all-star 5-piece band, combining her violin with contemporary Inuit throat singing, drum kit, double bass, and Brazilian percussion in a wildly unique cross-cultural fusion. Her original music draws inspiration from minimalism, folk and improvised music and her shows are a heartfelt, hypnotizing and engaging experience.
“The inspired and talented Canadian artist Gina Burgess presents us with an instrumental piece of unimaginable magnitude, where rhythmic nuances unfold in a perfect musical spectrum, showcasing the refined technique and inspiration of an impressive musician.” — Roadie Music
“…the song, which blends psychedelic elements with Celtic and Inuit roots, takes us into a magical and mischievous fairy world shimmering with fireflies and secrets.” — Canadian Beats Magazine
“Without fear of being wrong, we can say that, since Jean-Luc Ponty, we haven’t heard such a beautiful original composition, focused on the waves of the violin, as the one we witness in SOS.”
