With ample irony, this film by Icíar Bollaín explores the effects of Spanish imperialism, still resonating some 500 years later, in the continued struggle against oppression by indigenous people. Two parallel narratives are played out: a director and his crew shoot a controversial film about Christopher Columbus in Cochabamba, Bolivia, while local people rise up against plans to privatize the water supply.
