An immersion in the mysterious imagination of Frank Forrestall. Richly detailed and surreal artworks blur the boundaries between nature, myth and dream. A timely reflection on the power of imagination and the beauty of mystery. Enigmatic landscapes that embrace ambiguity and engage with the unknown.
Forrestall’s imagery moves between the recognizable and the unfamiliar. Fragments of landscape appear alongside hybrid figures and symbolic forms, some recurring, others more fleeting. In several works, details only come into focus over time, encouraging close looking rather than quick interpretation. The effect is cumulative. Meanings are not fixed, and they do not arrive all at once.
There is a quiet sense of movement throughout the show. Viewers may find themselves tracing paths through the paintings, or noticing connections between works that are not immediately obvious. This openness is central to the exhibition. It allows space for reflection without directing it too narrowly.
While the work engages with uncertainty, it does not frame it as something to resolve. Instead, “Pilgrimage Through Uncertain Worlds” stays with that condition, suggesting that not knowing can be generative. The paintings invite attention, patience, and a willingness to remain with ambiguity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Frank Forrestall is a Canadian surrealist painter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The youngest member of the Thomas Forrestall artist family, he has been painting professionally since 2016. His work is recognized for its detail, technical control, and evolving approach to narrative imagery.
