Join Terrell Roulston's presentation, Beyond the Honey Bee: Importance of Native Pollinators in Nova Scotia. Native bees and other pollinators are some of the most important and overlooked animals in Nova Scotia AND are often overshadowed in popular culture by the non-native managed honey bee. This talk will explore the diversity, ecology, and conservation of native pollinators, including bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and more. Drawing from research and field experience, Terrell Roulston will discuss pollinator diversity, common misconceptions about “saving the bees,” threats facing wild pollinators, and ways people can help support these species in their own communities.
Terrell Roulston is a Research Associate in the Migicovsky Lab at Acadia University, where his work focuses on plant ecology, biodiversity, and climate change. He completed his MSc in Plant Science at University of British Columbia and previously studied biology at Saint Mary’s University. Terrell has conducted research on native bee communities and pollination ecology, including making a novel discovery of bee visitations to salt marsh grasses in Nova Scotia. He is also passionate about science communication and conservation outreach, and runs summer bee walks at the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens.
Join in person at the Wolfville Legion on Monday, June 15 at 7 pm or join by Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84409707097#success .
