Event in Room: Main Gallery
Featuring work by ARCAC member artists across a range of disciplines, this exhibition explores maximalism through diverse materials, approaches, and perspectives.
---
MORE IS MORE examines abundance, excess, and the expressive possibilities of accumulation. The exhibition considers maximalism not simply as a visual style but as a way of thinking about making, where colour, texture, ornament, repetition, scale, and layered narratives become tools for exploring personal experience and broader cultural ideas.
Artists have been encouraged to interpret the theme in ways that reflect their own practices and lived experiences. Some works may embrace saturated colour, dense patterning, or richly worked surfaces, while others may build meaning through repetition, assemblage, or the accumulation of materials and imagery. Across media, the exhibition highlights the many ways complexity can emerge through process, form, and content.
The exhibition also encouraged artists to push beyond restraint and embrace experimentation. Maximalism can be playful or critical, ordered or unruly. It may respond to identity, memory, desire, consumption, nostalgia, or pleasure. In each case, abundance becomes a means of expression rather than an end in itself.
By bringing together a broad cross section of member artists, MORE IS MORE reflects the diversity of creative practices within the ARTSPLACE community. Visitors will encounter a wide range of interpretations that demonstrate how a shared theme can generate distinctly individual responses, each shaped by different materials, processes, and points of view.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception on August 1 and to return for the artist panel on September 5, where participating artists will discuss their work and the many ways they approached the exhibition theme.
