Buckle Up for RIDE THE CYCLONE: A Hilarious, Dark Musical Where a Choir in Limbo Must Sing for Their Lives
Emerging avant-garde theatre company, the Wolfville Social Club is at it again, this time with their take on the wild, dark comedy musical, Ride the Cyclone. With music, book, and lyrics by Canadians Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond, RTC opens with six recently deceased members of the St. Cassian Chamber Choir waking up in a surreal carnival purgatory where a mechanical fortune-teller forces them to compete for the ultimate prize: a ticket back to the land of the living. With a stellar score that spans space-age synth-pop, hip-hop, cabaret, and opera, each misfit student must in turn state their case in this genre-defying cult-classic favourite. Come with us on a deeply moving wild ride that is equal parts morbid and meaningful, heart-wrenching and hilarious, to discover what truly makes a life meaningful.
“Behind the bizarre, dark comedy premise of this show lies a deeply heartwarming core,” says show director Jeremy Banks. “It reminds us that no matter what your background or where you come from: that your life is valuable and meaningful and that sometimes simply being kind is enough.
