The retreat includes daily gentle warm-up, then guided activities, as well as time to explore in a more free-range way with prompts and options for those who would like a more directed experience, or simply time to read, write, or create on your own.
The activities during this retreat will include morning yoga sessions, harvesting and identifying plants in the forest, harvesting various medicinal plants, processing plants into medicinal teas and ointments, exploring storage methods like canning or drying or fermenting.
Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy evening bonfire sessions with homemade Bannock and tea from harvested or foraged ingredients, all as we dive into stories about the heritage of the north mountain, Wabanaki forest, skills and lifeways that sustained Indigenous people, explorers, trappers, fur traders, prospectors, etc. throughout Canada’s history.
We’ll also explore traditional gate and fence making with branches and twigs, as well as weaving to make wicker baskets.
Learn how to build various forms of wooden gates, hurdles, fence and trellises from coppiced wood. Learn how coppice forestry is a sustainable alternative to conventional timber for many applications.
