Swingology plays light and lively acoustic gypsy swing – familiar, entertaining, happy, melodic music that is popular with all ages – with finesse, personality and humour. We’ll take you back to Paris of the 1930’s, a time when swing was king, when the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli formed the Quintet of the Hot Club of France and electrified the music world with their unique brand of jazz. This great band infused the swing music of the era with the sounds of the gypsy camps and the rowdy Parisian dance halls to create a unique style unmatched for its driving rhythm, inventiveness and excitement.
Swingology consists of six instrumentalists - three gypsy guitars, violin, clarinet, and bass - and swing diva Cynthia Myers on vocals. Our songs are mostly songs you’ve heard and enjoyed many times before - some old, some new, but all played in a way that you’ve probably never imagined. As Stephen Cooke of the Halifax Chronicle Herald said of our music, “The songs are all familiar, but Swingology freshens them up with enough personality and humour to make you anticipate each new interpretation.”
