An urban teenage goth, dumped into a less accepting rural town to live with an estranged father, descends through a repressive and revenge-driven legal system when his online ramblings are taken for a potential Columbine-style school disaster. And when he clings to his ideals, it only makes things worse for him. Halifax-based director Jason Buxton's multi-award winning feature explores the power, and the danger of social media and cyber-bullying, while showing that the worst prisons are often the ones we create for ourselves. Startling, tough, realistic yet deeply compassionate, the film offers a disturbing and perceptive look at a culture of fear that has arisen in the wake of Columbine—a pervasive paranoia that reads typical teen angst and alienation as the stirrings of murderous intent.
