“An exceptionally smart political docudrama with a satirical edge”, No is set in 1988, when Chile’s military dictator Augusto Pinochet, facing international pressure, calls for a referendum on his presidency. Opposition leaders persuade a brash young advertising exec, Rene Saavedra, to spearhead the “No” campaign. With scant resources and under the despot’s constant scrutiny, Saavedra and his team devise an audacious PR plan, opting for images of happiness and joy for a “new Chile,” to win the election and free Chile from oppression.
