Oscar and Golden Globe nominee, Kon-Tiki, “is a lavishly constructed true-to-life epic that stands among the most thrilling and accessible films of this year's nominations.” In April 1947, Thor Heyerdahl left his family to cross the Pacific Ocean on the balsa wood raft, Kon-Tiki. With five inexperienced men and a parrot, the Norwegian anthropologist and adventurer traveled on the raft from Peru to Polynesia to prove that Polynesian settlers came from South America, not Asia. With only a simple radio aboard, they navigated the Kon-Tiki using the stars, currents and wind, as the world media watched.
