Frances (Greta Gerwig) lives in the city but doesn't really have a flat. She is an apprentice for a dance troop, but she's not really a dancer. She has a best friend, Sophie, but they aren’t speaking. She throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as they dwindle. Frances wants so much more, yet lives her life with unaccountable joy and lightness. In a modern comic fable Noah Baum-bach explores New York, friendship, class, ambition, failure and redemption.
