After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (current Oscar nomineee, Bruce Dern, giving “the performance of his career”) thinks he's struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune. “What's extraordinary is what happens at the intersection of [Alexander] Payne's impeccable direction and [Bob] Nelson's brilliant script. They achieve “sure rhythms and [an] artful balance of comedy and melancholy.” Shot in black and white across four states, “the brilliant, wisely observed and wryly funny” drama tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.
