Bboyizm dance company was founded by Artistic Director/Choreographer Crazy Smooth in 2004. Smooth’s vision for the company is to promote and preserve the foundation, authenticity and true essence of all street dances. The mechanism to execute this vision is through community engagement and the introduction of street dance to the mainstream performing arts infrastructure.
B-boy Crazy Smooth (Yvon Soglo) is the founder and artistic director of Bboyizm Dance Company. Crazy Smooth has been dancing for over a decade during which time he has come to be known as one of Canada's top street dancers. His professional experience includes instructing Cirque du Soleil acrobats and performing at the Nancy Jazz Festival in France.
In 2006 he was honoured to receive the Most Valuable B-boy award at the annual Kings of NY Competition and was the first B-boy to receive a full grant from the Canadian Council for the arts to study in both New York, Philadelphia and Orlando.
His ongoing involvement in dance and the dance community in general lead to an invitation to be the keynote speaker at the United Nations Youth conference in Edmonton in 2007. Crazy Smooth was also invited to serve as the 2012 Canadian Dance Assembly Ambassador for International Dance Week. In the same year he received the CCI emerging touring artist of the year award (a new category), a Diamond Jubilee Award and a Dora nomination for Best Production of his show IZM through DanceWorks in Toronto. Bboyizm was named Touring Artist of the Year by the Atlantic Presenters Association in St John’s NL in 2013.
He is dedicated to carrying on the street dance culture and introducing it to the world of performing arts with the motto "Dance to Express, Not to Impress".
