Following the Academy Awards Ceremony,
Sunday, March 2nd, please join us for a special
presentation of the landmark film, Twelve Years A
Slave, which has been called the most important
film on slavery ever made (The New Yorker).
Winner of the Golden Globes Award for Best
Picture, it has been nominated for 11 Oscars
including Best Picture. The film is adapted from
the 1853 memoir of the same name by Solomon
Northup, a New York State musician who was
kidnapped in Washington, D.C. in 1841 and sold
into slavery. He worked on plantations in the state
of Louisiana for twelve years before his release.
