Get ready for a weekend of excitement and intrigue as King’s Theatre Film Society pays homage to “The Master of Suspense,” Alfred Hitchcock. The “Get Hitched” weekend features two of Hitchcock’s most iconic and immortal films along with the more recently acclaimed love story, Hitchcock, focusing on the director and his wife during the filming of Psycho.
The festival opens on Friday night with the San Francisco-set classic Vertigo. After 55 years, this tale of acrophobia, obsession, voyeurism and, yes, vertigo, is as beautiful and eerie as ever. A 2012 poll of critics, programmers, academics and distributors chose Vertigo as the best film of all time, a distinction that Citizen Kane had held for a half-century.
Saturday afternoon offers a look behind the scenes with Hitchcock. This biographical comedy-drama centres on the relationship between director Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville and stars Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh.
“Get Hitched” closes Saturday evening with Hitchcock’s most notorious film. Psycho outraged the censors, terrified the public, and prompted one critic to storm out of a preview screening and resign in disgust. Two short features highlighting Hitchcock’s most famous collaborators for costume, Edith Head, and the graphic designer, Saul Bass, precede the film.
Since 1991, King’s Theatre Film Society has coordinated King’s Theatre’s spring and fall alternative and foreign film series. The “Get Hitched” festival marks the society’s second special weekend film festival, which is designed “to shine a more microscopic lens on particular film genres and those of major historic significance,” said Peter Mansour, key organizer of the “Get Hitched” event.

King’s Theatre Film Society presentations are made possible through the passionate support of people dedicated to viewing alternative and international films in the welcoming setting of our community theatre.
