Opening reception "Out of my Mind" Paintings by Ted Lind“Ted Lind's paintings seem to be informed by almost a hundred years of abstract painting. Knowing his background as a museum curator one can believe that they actually are. Lind's paintings are immediately engrossing and beautiful. The colors and forms are so carefully woven into their mysterious landscapes that one feels immediately the climate, time, and place of each piece.”
Lily Mulberry, Director, Gallery 1305, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2007
Artist statement
For years I created art that used the human figure as the core subject. These earlier art works were based on my experiences in diverse places amongst a variety of people. I was looking for artistic solutions that could communicate energy through an expressive handling of the media. In the 1990s, I presented three exhibits of my work under the title of “Out of Hand”.
Perhaps because I began to feel too comfortable working in this manner, in 2001 I decided to experiment with non-figurative forms - I chose to move away from the real world "stuff" that had anchored my earlier work. I found that I liked the freedom of this new approach. My process and choices could be removed from any recognizable or suggested narratives. My current images are totally abstract and come completely ‘Out of My Mind’.
As an artist who spent 35 years as a museum curator, I am particularly interested in the value of the emotional expression and spontaneity in the making of art. The paintings presented here were all completed within the past decade.
