It has been nearly 15 years since songwriter and musician Jeff Hennessy last performed at King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal, NS. He is therefore very excited to be returning to a venue that he once considered home. Local audiences will remember that Jeff released his debut CD “Son of the Valley” at King’s in 1995 to a sold-out audience. He then returned each summer until 1999, drawing capacity crowds each time.
Hennessy took a break from permorming in the 2000s to pursue more formal study in music, completing a ph.D. from the university of Toronto in 2008. He was appointed Director of the School of Music at Acadia University in 2007, a position he held for six years. Throughout this time, he kept writing songs and then returned to the stage last fall with a sold-out concert at the union street cafè in Berwick, followed by another sold-out show at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville in April.
Hennessy will take a break from his summer tour backing up songwriter Ian Janes on keyboards to perform one concert at King's Theatre. "The King's stage brings back a lot of memories for me," says Hennessy. "It's the first stage I ever sang publicly on." Annapolis Royal audiences will also remember Jeff Hennessy's involvement with the original cast Teatre Company, which staged summer festival shows at Kin's throughout the early 1990's.
The concert will feature mostly newer material, but Hennessy is considering bringing back a few of the older songs for the sake of nostalgia. He plans to bring his steller band and maybe invite a few special guests to join him on stage. It should be agreat night of music and memories.
