Atlantic Canada’s only summer contemporary dance festival launches its inaugural season at King’s Theatre. Building on the success of last year’s sold-out performances of “Dancing in the Third Act”, Company of Angels Artistic Director and Choreographer Randy Glynn has created a new work, “Teen Angel” to open the four-day event. Both pieces will run twice during the festival.

Two other Canadian dance companies will also be on-stage. Mocean Dance from Halifax will present “Canvas 5 X 5”, a whimsical creation that interweaves a traditional maritime soundscape with striking contemporary imagery. Catch a short preview on video at: http://vimeo.com/42377646

Toronto’s JD Dance performs two pieces. “Army of Barbie” is a lighthearted look at the lengths to which women will go in their endless quests for perfection. “A Mark” uses restless energy and twisted partnering to explore how those we touch leave their mark on us forever. Company of Angels’ “Dancing in the Third Act” is an engaging, dramatic and powerful look at the ups and downs (literally) of aging. The production received national critical acclaim when it premiered at the 2013 ARTs Unleashed! Festival. “Dancing in the Third Act” will open this year’s Quartiers Danses Festival in Montreal. “Teen Angel” is a compelling community-based dance mingling teenagers and seniors. “It focuses on things they share, don’t share and some things no one ever thought of,” explains Randy Glynn. “The starting point for creation has been issues that affect teens and seniors and how they intersect – and don’t intersect.” At times poignant, at times hilarious, “Teen Angel” is a true dance for all ages and all time.

"You will be amazed by Glynn's vision and feeling, his ability to dignify and deepen ordinary experience." Globe and Mail.
