Adapted for the big screen, this is director John Curran’s fictionalized version of Robyn Davison’s travel memoir. Davison (Mia Wasikowska) at age 27, sets out on a 2,800 km epic journey of discovery through the harsh Australian dessert to the Indian Ocean with four camels and a dog. To finance her walk, Davison reluctantly accepts a National Geographic feature assignment also requiring photographer Rick Smolan (at selected stops only), including the magazine’s May 1978 cover photo.
