Here is a tender tribute to the bittersweet tumult of adolescence—empathetic and shot through with a palpable joy. Based on filmmaker Lukas Moodysson’s wife Coco’s graphic novel, 13-year-old rebels Klara, Bobo and Hedvig decide to form an all-girl punk band, with no instruments and when “punk is dead” in 1980s Stockholm. With tender affection for his young characters, and the period, Moodysson paints an ebullient and sharply observant portrait of DIY spirit and growing up different.
