Fundy Film screens SHAMELESS PROPAGANDA- Al Whittle Theatre 10th celebration begins: A co-presentation with the Acadia University Art Gallery’s current exhibit, “Consuming Conflict”.

Is the documentary Canada's national art form? If so, foundations were laid in 1939–45 when the NFB began under the inspired vision of first commissioner, John Grierson, who saw the documentary as a "hammer to shape society.” This 2014 feature doc celebrating the NFB's 75th year, is Robert Lower's take on the greatest and most compelling propaganda effort in our history.

Watching all 500 films produced up to 1945, Lower distills the essence of their message to Canadians. With these films and stills from the era, he recreates the Canada they gave us then and looks in it for the Canada we know today. What he finds is by turns enlightening, entertaining and unexpectedly disturbing.
