Attention all you Mods and Rockers! Relive the early days of Beatlemania at King’s Theatre’s 50th Anniversary screening of A Hard Day's Night.
To mark the anniversary, the film has undergone a complete restoration by the Criterion Collection using the latest digital technology and the original 35-millimetre camera negative as the main source. The finished product was approved by A Hard Day's Night director Richard Lester. It also features a soundtrack with a newly-created 5.1 surround mix overseen by Abbey Road Studios.
Sponsored by King’s Film Society Committee, the evening will also feature a documentary narrated by singer/songwriter Phil Collins, The Making of A Hard Day’s Night, which will be shown following the actual film.
A Hard Day's Night, which premiered on July 6, 1964, took a humorous, cartoonish, fictional look at the lives of the band's members during the height of Beatles’ popularity following their first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” The movie included scenes of the Fab Four performing such iconic pop anthems as the title track, "Can't Buy Me Love," "I Should Have Known Better," and "If I Fell," and went on to influence the music video as we know it.
So don your mop-tops and slip on your Beatle boots and join us to watch as the world's most famous rock-and-roll band travels from Liverpool to London to perform in a television broadcast, facing quirky, madcap adventures along the way. Dancing and sing-alongs are positively encouraged!
Sound engineer Dillon Tonkin will supply the opening and interlude music for the evening, a mix of British hits from 1964.
Rated: G
87 mins.
Doors open at 7 pm. Cash bar.
