Inspired by true events, the story opens when PM Margaret Thatcher is in power (1984) and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. A London-based group of gay and lesbian activists raises money to support the strikers' families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group sets off for a tiny mining village in Wales to make their contribution in person.
