A real-life thriller unfolds in Laura Poitras’s documentary. Pulitzer Prize winner (2014) Poitras was well into a film about post-9/11 era surveillance when encrypted e-mails from a "citizen four" began to arrive (2013). Ready to blow the whistle on massive covert surveillance programs, he agreed to meet Laura and author/journalist Glenn Greenwald in Hong Kong. She brought her camera and thus began the filming of a series of tense encounters with the mysterious “citizen four”. . .Edward Snowden.
