Canadian humourist, storyteller, musician and playwright Lorne Elliott is bringing his show of comedy and music theatre to various venues of the Maritimes in May 2015.
Lorne Elliott’s concert performance is a selection of his current monologues and songs dealing with life experience. Creating new stage material about having to redefine priorities in view of life events is a welcome challenge to this writer and stage performer who enjoys shaking the perceived wisdom of the world around him.
His one-man show concert presentation is delightfully foolish, witty and thought-provoking. Combining dry humour with musical parodies and skits. Lorne Elliott is a shrewd observer of the human animal. Often self-deprecating, always silly and never profane, Elliott’s funny is family friendly.
For the past 26 years Lorne Elliott has been touring and performing in concert in theatres and arts centres across Canada, the U.S. and Australia. Regularly featured on TV on such programs as The Just For Laughs Festival and Comedy Variety Specials in Canada and the US.
For 11 Seasons “Madly Off In All Directions” was Lorne’s own CBC Radio Comedy Series which went on until fall 2006. Lorne is currently developing new projects.
Lorne is also a playwright and he received the Playwrights Guild of Canada 2012 Best New Musical Award for his play “Jamie Rowsell Lives”.
His first novel “Beach Reading” was published in July 2013 and was selected as a Finalist by Quebec Writers Federation for the Hugh MacLennan Fiction prize.
A new novel, titled “The Goat in The Tree” was launched in Toronto in March 2014.
This winter, Lorne has been busy writing a musical, a novel and a play. He just had a public play-reading of that new comedy titled “MOM RUNS AMOK” at Hudson Village Theatre on Feb 28th and it was a resounding success.
Last fall, Lorne was featured as a guest on CBC Radio’s popular program “THE VINYL CAFÉ with Stuart Maclean” and he is often heard as a columnist on CBC Radio’s “The Next Chapter”. .
Concert info:
Lorne Elliott speaks through his humour about being Canadian. His concert titled "THE UPSIDE OF THE DOWNTURN" is a show of his own creation made of lively stories, songs, poems and monologues with a strong backbone of excellent humorous writing, powerful imagery of the shared human experience which make the audience recognize themselves and put into words what they feel. The themes chosen, well in keeping with the average person preoccupations these days is a way of exploring what really counts: the continuous figuring of the world by the thinking human. He calls this exercise "blowing some jazz" as it has the quality of immediacy and of going out on a limb, but coming from an experienced writer/performer it always ends up feeling right, if at all somewhat outrageously dangerous. The duration of the performance is 90 minutes on stage plus an intermission. The performance is suitable for ages 9 and up.
