Presented by The Heavy Current Fishers Association
Join in for an evening of Fundy facts, film, forethought & feedback surrounding issues that face the fishers of the area, the general public, and the ecology of our Bay with the advent of tidal power development.
The evening will open with a film screening of the National Film Board's Where The Bay Becomes The Sea, a half hour film on the richness & diversity of the Bay of Fundy's marine ecosystem. Following this, Mark Dittrick of the Sierra Club of Canada will give a short presentation on some considerations regarding the far reaching effects tidal power on marine life.
There will then be a Feature Presentation by Mike Dadswell (a fisherman himself and a professor of biology at Acadia University) on TIDAL TURBINES & FISHERIES, the role of turbine characteristics in the impact of tidal power generation on pelagic marine organisms.
Q&A sessions to follow each presentation. Plenty of time given to ask questions &/or make comments.
Others in attendance will offer their thoughts on the EA (environmental assessment)* that was recently delivered to the NS Department of Environment; a document that addresses the placement of the turbines into the Minas Passage where the new test facility, FORCE (Fundy Ocean Resource Centre for Energy), will go in, with deployment of the first unit in the Fall of 2009.
*EA available @ www.gov.ns.ca/nse/ea/minas.passage.tidal.demonstration.asp
