Symphony Nova Scotia's Concertmaster, Renaud Lappiere is joined by cellist Shimon Walt and pianist Marie-Christine Baril in a performance of two of the most revered piano trios; Mendelssohn's Trio No. 1 in D-minor and Beethoven's monumental Archduke's trio in B flat Major. Lapierre and Walt will open the concert with the virtuosic Passacaglia for violin and cello by Handel - Halvorsen.
Born in Montreal, Renaud grew up in Saint-Lambert, Quebec in a musical family. He first began playing the violin at age five, and spent nearly ten years studying music at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Raymond Dessaints. Previous appointments as Concertmaster include the Orchestre de la Francophonie canadienne and Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal. He also held the position of Principal Second Violin for Symphony Nova Scotia in 2011/12.
Trois-Rivières's native, Marie-Christine Baril started the piano at age 8. At 14 years old, she won the first prize in Trois-Rivières's (Strings and Piano Competition). In 1997, at the Trois-Rivieres Cegep, she won the first prize in the 'Musical Expression'competition. Not only a chamber player, Marie-Christine also teaches the piano and accompany musicians for many different circumstances; international competitions as well as class concerts, or even for some recording project.
Shimon Walt is the Assistant Principal Cellist of Symphony Nova Scotia. Since his arrival to Nova Scotia in September of 1976 he has been an integral part of the province’s musical life. One of the founding members of Symphony Nova Scotia, where he was Symphony Nova Scotia’s first Personnel Manager, a position he held for six years. Shimon has provided musical services to many artists and organizations including Michael Bublé, Kanye West, Anne Murray, Sarah Brightman and John Denver. Today he shares his time between Symphony Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University, Rhapsody Quintet and operating Walt Music.
