As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralyzed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.
Benedict Cumberbatch will be starring in this year’s Hamlet, who most recently acted in the Imitation Game. The tickets for Hamlet were first made available on August 11 with 30,000 fans already queuing online by 10 am.The venue's three-month run had sold out by 5:25pm, making the production the most in-demand theatre show of all time.
Cumberbatch’s turn in Hamlet will be his first stage appearance since Danny Boyle’s 2011 National Theatre production of Frankenstein. He looks forward to acting for National Theatre Live and says “It's a great way of making the play accessible. National Theatre Live launched in June 2009 with a broadcast of the National Theatre production of Phèdre. They have since broadcast more than twenty other productions live from the National Theatre.
