FREE TRADE, CORPORATIONS & YOU or
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Explained.
What is the TPP? Why stop the TPP? Hillary says she won't pass it. Trudeau said he'll have to review & debate it. 6000 pages in length, it was negotiated behind closed doors to avoid public scrutiny.
This evening's presenter, Dr. Janet M. Eaton, will unpack the so-called 'trade deal,' the TPP — which is the largest of its kind in history — and why it won't be beneficial to Canadians.
The TPP deal threatens not only the auto industry, post office, CBC and more, it will also undermine public health and access to medicines, environmental protection measures, access to knowledge and an open Internet, plus community-led public policy for starters. Like NAFTA, the TPP will include an investor rights chapter and investor–state dispute process that lets companies sue governments in secret tribunals when public policies get in the way of profits.
Come out and discuss ways we can let our new Liberal government hear our concerns before they sign on to this pro-corporate pact negotiated in secrecy.

☛ Cinéma Politique is a gathering of politicos & the curious who are interested in exploring modern political phenomenon through video & discussion. Topics vary month-to-month, sometimes a miscellany of topics, sometimes focusing on a single topic, depending on the speaker.
We are currently looking at the path forward and ways in which we can contribute to a better electoral system and a more effective democracy.
