Set in an upper-class country house in 1930s England, eminent physician Dr John Cristow (played by Scott McQuillin) and his timid wife Gerda (Colleen Rowland) visit Sir Henry Angkatell (Brian Rice) and absent-minded wife Lucy (Eloise Mailman) for the weekend.
As the plot reveals itself, complicated love-triangles unfold and unravel: Sir Henry’s cousin & house-guest, acclaimed sculptress Henrietta (Meaghan Pozzolo), is Cristow’s mistress; herself the object of the infatuation of ‘bookish and dull’ Edward (John Burris); in turn Edward is unaware of the adoration of young boutique assistant Midge Harvey (Myisha Pozzolo).
This is complicated further when an old flame of Cristow’s, fading movie starlet Veronica Craye (Rachael Cheechoo), enters the scene. Add to the household the loyal and faithful butler Gudgeon (Brian Dickinson) and nosey but reluctant housemaid Doris (Penelope Domries), and ill-deeds are but a heartbeat away…
Scotland Yard’s finest, the dogged Inspector Colquhoun (Donnie Carter) is soon on the case. Aided by the meticulous note taking of Police Constable Penny (Oliver Bass), the Inspector sifts through the clues as murky motives come to light and alibis are found wanting. Can you keep a step ahead of our sleuths as the climactic denouement approaches?
