Based on the Booker-shortlisted bestseller by Irish-Canadian novelist Emma Donoghue, Room is a tale of survival and endurance that is by turns harrowing, suspenseful and wondrous. After being abducted seven years ago, a young woman is held captive in a sparsely furnished and cramped suburban garden shed along with her now-kindergarten-aged son. Without access to the outside world save for a rickety TV with spotty reception, she plots their escape from the monster who has imprisoned them. This visionary drama explores the trauma of being stolen from the world — and the marvel of discovering it for the first time. ROOM has garnered great praise and numerous local and international awards including People's Choice Award at the Toronto Int'l Film Festival, Best Actress in a leading role (Oscars, BAFTA, Golden Globes).
