Theatre / Play
Jake's Gift is a brilliant one-woman play by Vancouver's Julia Mackey about the touching bond between an 80-year-old Canadian veteran from D-Day who returns to the beaches of Normandy and a 10-year-old French girl.
Mackey wrote the powerful piece and is brilliant performing in it. It's astounding how she can switch in a split second between her role as a 10-year-old and an 80-year-old.
Especially impressive is the way she absolutely nails the movements of the elderly man -- right down to fine details like the shakiness of the elderly character. Her acting is brilliant.
