It's back! Zuppa Theatre’s 2012 hit show, Slowly I Turn, returns this fall. Originally performed in a living-room as a site-specific show, the 2016 remount will see the production make its transition to charming, intimate theatres around Nova Scotia.
A love letter to theatre and family, Slowly I Turn alternates between contemporary conversation and vintage vaudeville sketches and songs. Starring Zuppa co-founder Ben Stone and his real-life father, much admired school teacher John Stone, Slowly I Turn was nominated for six Robert Merritt Awards and won two, including Best Production. This whimsical and heart warming production was directed by Graham Percy and designed by Jess Lewis and Leesa Hamilton.
Slowly I Turn: a Parlour Vaudeville in One Act is Zuppa’s newest creation. Conceived by Zuppa founder and principal actor Ben Stone, the show is a about a father and son fullfilling a long-time dream of performing together…by putting on a play in their living room.
Starring Ben Stone and his real-life father John (a much loved Halifax school teacher), Slowly I Turn is a love letter to family and theatre.
Sponsored and Supported by:
The Canada Council for the Arts, The Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage,
Praise for Slowly I Turn:
“Tender, thought-provoking and unforgettable, Slowly I Turn … features Zuppa’s hallmark innovative staging in unusual spaces.”
“Slowly I Turn… is homey and homemade in design, but ultimately sophisticated and artful in its universal themes of love and family and death.”– Elissa Barnard, The Chronicle Herald
“Envelope-pushing”
“You’ll be both moved and entertained by this homey, charming and deceptively simple production.”
– Kate Watson, The Coast
