Our own Annapolis Basin Community Band gives the holidays a musical lift-off at its Sounds of Christmas Concert on Friday, December 11.

We are so fortunate to have a band of this stature right here in our area. With a diverse membership of over forty that includes for-the-love-of-it players along with a cadre of professionals and semi-professionals, the band has established itself as something of a musical phenomenon in the Annapolis Valley.

“Our concert will include traditional Christmas music,” said ABCB Director, Jolene Buchholz, “but also classical, music from Hollywood and some delightful novelty pieces. Even the best-known Christmas songs sound brand new when delivered with the special arrangements prepared just for bands.”

The ABCB has become a significant contributor to our community, playing at our and area high schools and for various area special occasions like Natal Day and Remembrance Day. ”We want to give back to the community because the community has been so good to us,” said Buchholz, noting, in particular, the generous support of local businesses for ABCB’s annual BandFest.

Also on the program will be the Annapolis Voices, the area’s newest choral group featuring the trained voices of 16 auditioned singers. Their varied repertoire includes music from Renaissance to contemporary, classical to pop. Artistic Director is Deidre Morrell-Ormerod of Digby.
