Canadian pianist Alan Fraser enjoys an international reputation both as a teacher and a performer. He is best known for his landmark books, The Craft of Piano Playing (also in DVD), Honing the Pianistic Self-Image and All Thumbs: Well-Coordinated Piano Technique. Oxford University Press will soon publish his fourth volume on piano technique, Play the Piano with Your Whole Self. Considered classics in the field, these books are sought after worldwide, with new translations into several languages appearing regularly.

After studies in Montreal with Tom Plaunt and Phil Cohen, Alan moved to the former Yugoslavia in 1990 to collaborate with Kemal Gekić, a virtuoso whose transcendent technique he would imbibe and analyze on the way to forming his own approach, now known as Piano Kinematics.

Alan is a senior practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method, an approach to neuro-motor re-education that played a crucial role in the development of his piano technique. You can find out more about Feldenkrais in Norman Doidge’s new book, the New York Times bestseller The Brain’s Way of Healing. He combines his Feldenkrais and piano technique expertise in the Alan Fraser Piano Institute, held annually at locations throughout Europe and North America. Alan still lives and teaches in Serbia, where he is on staff at the University of Novi Sad. He has two daughters, Megan and Masha.

Alan has strong roots to this region. His great grandfather Willard Clarke of Bear River was the local lumber baron, and his father, Clarke Fraser, was a regular at the Annapolis market Saturday mornings.

Masha Fraser was born in Wuhan, China of mixed Serbian-Canadian parentage, and completed her primary music studies at the Stanislav Binichki Music School in Belgrade, Serbia. She recently graduated from the Kosta Manoilovich Music School in Belgrade, and has worked as well under such legendary teachers as Lilika Petrovich, Verica Hoffman, Zlata Malesh, Phil Cohen and Kemal Gekic as well as having occasional coaching sessions with her father. In addition to music, she has a propensity for mathematics and psychology, and is considering opening a clinic treating traumatized performing artists.

Audrey Dumont
A native of Dijon, France, Audrey Dumont studied piano at the Dijon Conservatoire and is now enrolled in Master’s degree program at the Conservatoire in Lausanne, Switzerland. She has been attending the Alan Fraser Piano Institute regularly since 2014, and uses piano kinematics in her teaching practice in Dijon. In her spare time, Audrey writes poetry as well as practicing meditation and the Feldenkrais Method.
