" . . . to be irreplaceable, one must always be different’” said French couturier, Gabrielle ''Coco'' Chanel. This very feminine, very inward-looking French biopic examines the influences that made Chanel so different–and so irreplaceable. From the poor, skinny orphan in a convent school learning the sewing trade, the film follows her life, loves and evolution to the unmarried, independent iconic designer who hid a tough, sad heart. With spectacle, stunning period detail and Audrey Tautou as the headstrong Coco, the film stretches the standard biopic in imaginative new directions.
